Joseph Fung is the Managing Partner of Saltagen Ventures, a deep-technology venture capital fund dedicated to scaling Canadian startups globally. Based in Hong Kong, Joseph manages a portfolio focused on sectors covering medical technology, machine learning and education technology. He also is the founder of Fairchild Canadian Academy, a preschool and kindergarten in Hong Kong, operating on the principles of Reggio Emilia education. He currently serves on various boards. Most notably, he is the Hong Kong advisor (ABLAC) for the Asia Pacific Foundation, a Canadian think tank that directly advises Prime Minister Trudeau.
Joseph serves on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong as an executive committee board director, along with being a board advisor to Creative Destruction Labs Global. Prior to leading Saltagen Ventures, Joseph served at Citigroup Alternative Investments and at Morgan Stanley in the buy-side research divisions. Thereafter, he drove the expansion of Hong Kong’s largest quad-play media company, PCCW Media, in developing the overseas content acquisition and broadcasting departments.
Joseph is an alumnus of St. George’s School and Cornell University and a proud father of two daughters. He is also a certified rescue and cave diver, and ski instructor. In his spare time, he enjoys fermenting foods and restoring vintage computer terminals.
